Thinking of Eloping in Australia? Here’s What to Consider

Have you Dreamed of visiting Australia? Why not get married here?

Getting married in Australia is simple. Elope Australia can organise everything for you. We cover off the key things you need to know before you travel to Australia for your elopement:

What You Will Need to Get Married in Australia:

Many of our international couples choose to elope with just the two of them - no guests required.

But there are some critical things you will need, which include

  • You and your partner

  • Two witnesses (your photographer and videographer can fill this role)

  • A completed Notice of Intended Marriage form (we’ll send this to you and guide you through it)

  • Proof of identity (either a passport, or a birth certificate and driver’s licence)

  • If previously married, you will need to provide your official proof of divorce or a death certificate

Your celebrant will handle the legal paperwork on the day, and you’ll receive a commemorative certificate during your ceremony. You can also order an official marriage certificate to be sent to you after the wedding.

This is the minimum - you can always invite more guests if you wish.

What legal paperwork is required?

The Elope Australia celebrant team will send you a link to complete a form called the Notice of Intended Marriage. This is a legal requirement and must be signed in front of an authorised witness, then sent to your celebrant at least one month before your wedding day.

To complete the form, you’ll need to provide:

  • Your passport or both your birth certificate and driver’s licence

  • If you’ve been married before, a divorce certificate or a death certificate for your previous spouse

  • If your documents are in another language, an official English translation is required

Your celebrant will take care of all the legal paperwork on the day.

You’ll receive a commemorative certificate at your ceremony, and you can choose to order your official marriage certificate, which is posted to you around 6–8 weeks later.

Choose Your Dream Location in Australia

Australia is a huge country and there are so many beautiful places to get married. Imagine yourselves getting married at either:

  • Beachfront & tropical: Far North Queensland is paradise if you love coastal elopements and lush green backdrops and tropical or warm weather setting.

  • Mountains & forest: Victoria and New South Wales offer rolling hills, dramatic cliffs, and hidden valleys.

  • Remote & iconic: Uluru and the Red Centre are for couples who want something powerful, sacred, and completely unforgettable.

  • Cool-climate & rugged: Tasmania is full of moody wilderness and untouched beauty. We can also arrange a Tasmania elopement that’s beautiful and intimate.

  • Vineyard or Winery: Victoria and South Australia and Western Australia are home to some of our country’s most beautiful wine regions, perfect for relaxed, elegant celebrations. Let us choose for you, or tell us what style works best for you.

  • Australian countryside: Wide open skies, rolling fields, and the rustic charm of regional Australia is perfect for couples seeking a peaceful, grounded setting that feels timeless and down-to-earth.

Add-on Services: Make Your Day Even More Special

We offer many other additional services to help make your day feel complete. From photography and videography to capture every moment, to hair and makeup, florals, a wedding cake, and beautiful accommodation options we’ve got you covered.

You can also choose extras like custom signage, live music, private transport, a celebratory meal, or even a small reception to continue the celebration your way.
